Version 0.17 Update - Demo!


The first version of the ALAS Demo is out now!

It's no longer a proof of concept! I actually sort of, maybe, kinda, possibly know what direction I want to go with it.

There are quite of few changes in this version.

I have removed the Card Energy mechanic, I always felt like Mana systems in card games were a bit over done. so I wanted to do a different take on the idea. I already had the Deployment/turn cost mechanic for the Units, where it takes a few turns before you can play them. So instead of a mana/energy cost, I have applied the turn cost to Skills, Items, and Gear as well. 

You now download those cards to a Unit you control, and you'll have to wait a turn or two before that Unit can use them. 

Here's the general idea of what those cards do now.

  • Some Unit's already have Skills so downloaded Skills would function the same way. 
  • Items work like Skill but have a limited number of Uses, when those Uses are up, that Unit can no longer use that Item. 
  • For Gear cards, their stat bonuses and Skills are only added to the Unit after their download time is finished.

Balancing these mechanics may take a while but I'm pretty happy that all of the current types of cards all follow the same cost/mechanic. 

I'm going to try and not change any of the base gameplay in the future, from now on, it's only a matter of content and game balancing. I also tried updating the rulebook in the menu to match the gameplay changes but I might have missed a spot.

I'll be making periodic updates, to fix some areas of the demo, and make it look nicer and smooth out some of the rough spots. To be honest, it was a bit of a rushed job since I made this demo in a single weekend as a challenge but it's playable! It has a beginning and an end so, I think it's probably fine.
